What is a text-capable printer?

Nowadays there are more and more «Windows only» printers on the market. These printers are not text-capable. You cannot even print plain text on them! They don't even know how an «A» looks!

A text-capable printer is one that has its own built-in fonts. If you send an ASCII 65 (capital letter A) to such a printer, it will print out a capital letter A. Nowadays this is no longer necessary for most computer applications because modern GUI applications anycase know their own fonts and send detailed graphical instructions to the printer.
