command-line conversion "xxx to pdf"

Monday, 4. April 2005 03:34.

Another way to avoid the problem discovered in use OpenOffice to process documents? (26.03.05) is to launch another process for each file which does conversions using some command-line converter.

An interesting request for command line scriptability had been opened in Feb 2005: morgajel asks «I've been looking for a utility to convert swx files to other formats, and I realized it might be really useful for others as well to perhaps have some type of utility to allow command line conversion from one format to another. It would be great if it was perhaps a seperate package that could be installed on a server using the good bits from oowriter. I personally would like to run this on a server with no X installed via a cron job.»

The request was then closed as worksforme, with the explanation «The SDK contains a sample named DocumentConverter, which shows how such a task can be performed.»

I guess they talk about \OpenOffice.org1.1_SDK\examples\java\ConverterServlet.

But there is also udk.openoffice.org/python/samples/ooextract.py which I saved to lino:src/lino/scripts/ooextract.pyand then tried to use with lino:src/lino/scripts/ooserver.batand lino:src/lino/scripts/ooextract.bat.
